Jackson Bolen’s sprint wins lift Bishop Chatard to City track crown

INDIANAPOLIS – Jackson Bolen secured the team title by anchoring Bishop Chatard to victory in the climactic 1,600-meter relay in the City boys track and field meet Wednesday night at Tech.

Before the relay, Chatard led defending champion Cathedral by less than one point, 132 1/3 to 131 ½. Chatard finished with 142 1/3 to Cathedral’s 137 ½.

Bolen, a football player for Chatard’s Class 3A state champions, was chosen athlete of the meet. The senior won the 200 meters in 22.32 seconds — making him among the top eight in the state — and anchored Chatard’s 400 relay to another win.

Chatard improved significantly from the previous City meet, in 2019, when it finished fourth with 77 points. Cardinal Ritter’s Kemari Robinson, after winning the 100 in 11.31, was second to Bolen in the 200.

Heritage Christian freshman Luke Himes won the shot put and discus with distances of 50 feet, 5 inches and 164-3, respectively. Himes threw the discus 167-4 in the Circle City Conference meet April 30, putting him within five feet of the freshman state record of 172-4 set by Southport’s Tyler Garrett in 1995.
